The historic West Montrose Covered Bridge, built in 1881, is Ontario’s last remaining covered bridge and a tourist destination in the Region of Waterloo. The bridge requires a major rehabilitation. The preferred rehabilitation alternative identified through a Schedule ‘C’ Environmental Assessment includes removing the existing steel Bailey trusses and strengthening the existing wooden trusses to achieve a 10 tonne design live load capacity.
Generally, without limiting the scope of work, the bridge rehabilitation project includes the following:
